Zan Celar Completes Move From QPR to Basel

theglobalsun – Queens Park Rangers striker Zan Celar has completed a move to Swiss club Basel for an undisclosed transfer fee. The 27-year-old forward leaves QPR after joining the Championship side from Lugano in 2024. His return to Switzerland gives him an opportunity to revive his career in a familiar league. Celar previously enjoyed significant goalscoring success in the Swiss Super League.

Celar joined QPR after establishing himself with Lugano in Switzerland. He arrived in England with international experience already on his record. The striker had made three appearances for Slovenia at the European Championship in Germany during the summer of 2024.

His first season at QPR included 23 appearances across the campaign. Celar scored twice during an important victory away against Cardiff City. However, his progress was interrupted after he suffered a hamstring injury.

The injury affected Celar’s availability during his first campaign in English football. He subsequently moved to Germany on loan for the following season. Fortuna Dusseldorf provided him with another opportunity to compete for regular playing time in the 2. Bundesliga.

However, the loan spell did not produce the playing opportunities Celar had hoped to secure. QPR chief executive Christian Nourry acknowledged that the forward experienced a difficult adaptation period in England. Nourry said Celar worked hard to adjust to the demands of the league.

Nourry also explained that Celar wanted a platform in Germany where he could play regularly. However, the move to Fortuna Dusseldorf ultimately did not translate into sufficient minutes. The striker will now look for greater consistency after returning to Switzerland.

Celar’s transfer to Basel represents a return to a competition where he has already achieved individual success. He finished as the Swiss Super League’s leading scorer approximately two years before the latest move. That record provides an important part of his credentials as he begins another chapter.

Celar Returns to Switzerland After Challenging QPR and Germany Spells

Celar’s return to Switzerland comes after a difficult period since leaving Lugano. His move to QPR represented a major change in environment after establishing himself in the Swiss Super League. However, injuries and limited playing opportunities prevented him from producing his best form consistently.

The forward’s two goals against Cardiff provided a glimpse of his goalscoring ability during his first QPR season. His subsequent hamstring injury disrupted his momentum. He then moved to Fortuna Dusseldorf in search of more regular football.

According to Nourry, Celar’s German loan did not provide enough minutes. The QPR chief executive said the striker had wanted an opportunity to play regularly. That opportunity ultimately failed to materialize as expected.

Basel now offers Celar a fresh opportunity to regain his confidence and goalscoring rhythm. The striker already understands the Swiss Super League after spending several seasons in the competition. His previous success also gives him a clear benchmark for his performances.

Celar’s international background adds further experience to his profile. He represented Slovenia at Euro 2024 before his move to QPR. Those three appearances came during a major international tournament and provided valuable exposure.

At 27, Celar still has considerable senior football experience ahead of him. His return to Switzerland could allow him to play in a familiar tactical and competitive environment. Basel will hope his previous goalscoring record can translate into regular contributions.

QPR have not disclosed the financial terms of the transfer. The club has instead confirmed that Celar has completed his permanent move to Basel. The departure allows both sides to move forward after a period that did not produce the desired results.
