theglobalsun – FC Cincinnati have completed the signing of former Manchester United left-back Tyrell Malacia on a free transfer. The 27-year-old Netherlands international left Old Trafford at the end of last season after making 50 appearances for the Premier League club.
Malacia has signed a contract with Cincinnati that runs until June 2027. The agreement also includes an option to extend his stay through the 2027-28 season, giving the MLS club the opportunity to retain the defender beyond his initial contract.

The move brings an end to Malacia’s time with Manchester United, where he spent several seasons after joining from Feyenoord in 2022. He arrived at Old Trafford as a promising left-back and went on to make 50 appearances for the club.
However, injuries disrupted much of his spell in England. Those fitness issues limited his opportunities and prevented him from establishing a consistent run of appearances in the United first team.
Malacia Brings European Experience to Cincinnati
FC Cincinnati’s general manager Chris Albright said the club were pleased to add a player with Malacia’s experience at the highest levels of European football.
“He’s played at the highest levels of the game and understands the demands of competing in those environments,” Albright said.
The Cincinnati hierarchy also highlighted Malacia’s technical qualities and defensive attributes. His ability to contribute with the ball and his experience playing against high-level opposition are expected to strengthen the club’s defensive options.
Malacia began his professional career with Feyenoord in the Netherlands before earning a move to Manchester United. His development at Feyenoord eventually led to international recognition, with the defender becoming part of the Netherlands setup.
His move to Cincinnati now gives him an opportunity to continue his career in Major League Soccer. The club will hope his experience in the Premier League and European competitions can provide additional depth and quality to the squad.
Cincinnati Secure Experienced Defensive Reinforcement
Malacia joins FC Cincinnati as the club look to benefit from his experience and versatility on the left side of the defence. His arrival also gives the MLS side a player familiar with the physical and tactical demands of top-level football.
