theglobalsun – Wigan Athletic have strengthened their attacking options by signing former Republic of Ireland striker Scott Hogan on a short-term deal until January. The 34-year-old forward joins the League One club after leaving MK Dons at the end of last season. Having previously moved to the club on a free transfer from Birmingham City in October 2024.
Wigan will hope Hogan can provide additional firepower as they look to improve after a slow start to their League One campaign. However, the experienced striker had a limited goalscoring impact at MK Dons last season. Scoring just once, with his only goal coming almost a year ago.

Hogan has enjoyed a lengthy career in English football and first made a name for himself at Brentford in the Championship. His performances for the London club eventually attracted Aston Villa. Who signed him in January 2017 for a reported £9 million, with the transfer potentially rising to £12 million.
Hogan Brings Experience From Across English Football
The striker has also represented several other clubs during his career, including Rochdale, Stoke City and Sheffield United. His experience across different levels of English football gives Wigan an experienced option as they attempt to improve their attacking output.
Hogan also represented the Republic of Ireland at international level, adding to his experience both domestically and internationally. His arrival gives Wigan another attacking option while the club attempts to build momentum during the early stages of the League One season.
The short-term agreement will keep Hogan at Wigan until January. Allowing the club to assess his contribution during the first half of the campaign.
Although his recent record has been modest. Hogan’s previous experience with Brentford and Aston Villa highlights the level at which he has competed during his career. Wigan will be hoping that experience can prove valuable as they seek to improve their fortunes in League One.
Hogan also brings experience of playing in competitive environments where attacking players face significant pressure to deliver goals.
The forward will also have the opportunity to work with his new teammates and adapt to Wigan’s tactical approach. His ability to operate across the attacking line could give the coaching staff additional flexibility when selecting the starting lineup.
