Alex Jimenez Joins Fiorentina on Loan From Bournemouth

Fiorentina have completed the signing of Jimenez from Bournemouth on a season-long loan as they strengthen their defensive options for the upcoming Serie A campaign.

The deal includes an option to buy the 21-year-old Spain Under-21 international for €20 million (£17 million) when the loan expires.

Bournemouth confirmed the transfer in a statement, wishing the defender success during his spell in Italy.

“The club wishes Alex well for the season ahead as he links up with Fiorentina,” the Cherries said.

Jimenez initially arrived at Bournemouth on loan from AC Milan before making the move permanent in February. He signed a long-term contract that runs until 2031.

Last season, the defender made 32 appearances in all competitions for Bournemouth and scored one goal.

Defender Remains Under Investigation

The loan move comes while Jimenez remains suspended by Bournemouth following an internal investigation into social media allegations.

In May, the club removed the defender from first-team activities after describing the situation as a “serious matter” related to posts circulating on social media. Bournemouth has not provided further details regarding the investigation, and the club has continued to refrain from commenting publicly while the process remains ongoing.

Although the investigation is ongoing, the agreement with Fiorentina allows Jimenez to continue his playing career during the 2026-27 season. The temporary move also gives the 21-year-old an opportunity to maintain his fitness, regain match sharpness. And continue competing at the highest level rather than spending an extended period away from competitive football.

For Fiorentina, the signing adds a young defender with experience in both Serie A and the Premier League environment. While Bournemouth gives the player an opportunity to continue his development away from the club. The Italian side believes Jimenez’s versatility, physical attributes, and familiarity with top-level football could strengthen its defensive rotation throughout a demanding campaign.

If Jimenez impresses during his time in Florence. Fiorentina will have the option to activate the €20 million clause and complete a permanent transfer next summer.

The decision will likely depend on his performances, consistency, and ability to adapt to the club’s tactical system over the course of the season. A successful loan spell could ultimately benefit all parties by providing Fiorentina with a long-term defensive solution while allowing Bournemouth to secure a permanent transfer if the purchase option is exercised.
