theglobalsun – Tottenham Hotspur have agreed a deal to sign experienced goalkeeper Martin Dubravka on a free transfer after the expiration of his Burnley contract on 1 July. The Slovakia international becomes the club’s latest addition as Roberto De Zerbi continues rebuilding the squad ahead of the new Premier League season.
The 37-year-old joins Spurs after an impressive campaign with Burnley, where he made 35 Premier League appearances during the 2025-26 season. His arrival adds valuable experience and depth to Tottenham’s goalkeeping department.
Dubravka becomes Tottenham’s fourth signing of the summer transfer window. Earlier, the club secured defenders Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson on free transfers before completing a £52 million move for Dutch centre-back Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton.
The North London club continues strengthening its defensive unit following back-to-back 17th-place finishes in the Premier League. Improving defensive consistency remains one of De Zerbi’s primary objectives.
Dubravka also brings extensive top-flight experience after previous spells with Newcastle United and Manchester United. Across his Premier League career, he has made 197 appearances while keeping 51 clean sheets.
The veteran goalkeeper is widely regarded as a dependable shot-stopper and experienced leader. Tottenham hope those qualities will strengthen competition throughout the squad.
Speaking after agreeing to the move, Dubravka expressed his excitement about beginning a new chapter in his career.
“It’s an exciting time for me, a new journey and new experience for me and my family. I’m looking forward to it,” Dubravka said.
The Slovakian also praised his new manager and the club’s supporters.
“Everything moved pretty quickly and I’m really happy to be here. I’ve loved watching Roberto’s teams over the years and know all about his style, vision and the fantastic fans here.”
Goalkeeping Competition Increases at Tottenham
Dubravka’s arrival creates additional competition among Tottenham’s goalkeepers. Questions continue surrounding the future of Italy international Guglielmo Vicario.
Several Serie A clubs reportedly remain interested in signing Vicario during the current transfer window. His long-term future in North London therefore remains uncertain.
Antonin Kinsky also competed for the number one position throughout last season. The 23-year-old eventually established himself as Tottenham’s first-choice goalkeeper.
Kinsky produced several impressive performances during the closing months of the campaign. His outstanding save against Leeds United proved crucial in helping Spurs secure Premier League survival.
The young goalkeeper’s strong finish represented a remarkable recovery after earlier struggles. In March, De Zerbi substituted him during the 17th minute of Tottenham’s UEFA Champions League round-of-16 match against Atletico Madrid after conceding three goals.
Dubravka’s experience now gives De Zerbi another reliable option between the posts. Increased competition could benefit all goalkeepers throughout the season.
De Zerbi Continues Tottenham Squad Rebuild
De Zerbi welcomed the arrival of the experienced goalkeeper and highlighted the qualities Dubravka will bring to the dressing room.
“I am very happy because Martin is a goalkeeper with big experience and a strong mentality,” De Zerbi said.
“He has very important qualities for me and will bring balance, leadership and competitiveness to our dressing room.”
Tottenham remain active in the transfer market as they continue reshaping the squad. The club recently attempted to strengthen its midfield by pursuing Newcastle United star Sandro Tonali.
However, Newcastle rejected Tottenham’s reported £80 million offer for the Italy international. The Magpies remain determined to retain one of their key midfield players.
Despite that setback, Spurs have already completed several important defensive additions during the current transfer window. The club hopes the new arrivals will improve performances after two difficult Premier League campaigns.
With Martin Dubravka becoming Tottenham’s fourth summer signing, Roberto De Zerbi continues building a more experienced and competitive squad as Spurs prepare for the challenges of the upcoming Premier League season.
