Charlton Complete Loan Deal for Forest’s Bindon

theglobalsun – Charlton Athletic have signed defender Tyler Bindon on a season-long loan from Premier League club Nottingham Forest.

The 21-year-old joined Forest from Reading in February 2025 for an undisclosed transfer fee. However, Bindon has yet to make a first-team appearance for the Premier League club.

The New Zealand international spent last season on loan at Sheffield United, one of Charlton’s Championship rivals. Bindon made 25 appearances for Sheffield United across the campaign.

He also scored one goal during his spell with the South Yorkshire club. His experience at Sheffield United gives Charlton a defender with recent Championship football experience.

Bindon will now continue his development while competing for regular first-team opportunities at Charlton. His move also provides Forest with another opportunity to give the young defender valuable senior experience.

Bindon’s international career has already added important experience to his developing senior profile. The defender represented New Zealand during the summer’s World Cup tournament.

He played in all three of the Kiwis’ group-stage matches during the competition. New Zealand ultimately failed to reach the knockout stage after completing their group campaign.

Nathan Jones Welcomes Long-Term Defensive Target

Charlton manager Nathan Jones revealed that Bindon has been a long-term target for the club. Jones also explained that injuries influenced Charlton’s need to react during their squad planning.

“Obviously we had to be reactive with certain injuries that we had,” Jones told the club website. “But Tyler is a player that I’ve known for a long, long time and have tried to sign.”

The Charlton boss believes Bindon can strengthen the squad and improve the team’s defensive options. “He’s a player that will add to us and improve our squad, so we’re looking forward to working with him,” Jones added.

Bindon’s previous Championship experience should help him settle quickly into his new surroundings. His 25 appearances for Sheffield United provide a strong foundation for another season in the division.

At 21, the defender also has significant room to develop through regular competitive football. His international experience with New Zealand provides another valuable element to his growing career.

Charlton will hope Bindon can translate that experience into consistent performances throughout his loan spell. The season-long agreement gives him an extended opportunity to establish himself with the Addicks.

For Nottingham Forest, the arrangement allows Bindon to continue developing through regular senior football. For Charlton, his arrival adds youth, experience, and defensive depth to their squad.

Bindon will now aim to make a strong impression during his latest Championship loan spell.
