The Ivory Coast international had an impressive 2024–25 season, scoring 12 goals and earning Nice’s Player of the Season award as they finished fourth in Ligue 1. His form attracted interest from several clubs, including Crystal Palace, but Villa moved swiftly to finalise the transfer.

Aston Villa have made Guessand their first major signing of the summer. The club already signed Yasin Ozcan from Kasimpasa, then loaned him to Anderlecht. And brought in experienced goalkeeper Marco Bizot from Brest. However, Unai Emery expects Guessand to play a central role in the upcoming Premier League campaign.

Villa have been actively searching for striker reinforcements following the January departure of Jhon Duran to Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr. With only Ollie Watkins as the club’s senior centre-forward, the need for a proven goalscorer became a top priority.

Guessand’s Arrival Strengthens Villa’s Attack Ahead of New Season

Evann Guessand brings a mix of pace, technical skill, and finishing ability that Villa have lacked in depth up front. His consistent performances in France last season and recent breakthrough into the Ivory Coast national team add to his growing reputation. Guessand made his international debut in June 2024 and has already earned nine caps.

The striker rose through the youth academy at Nice and signed a four-year deal with the French club last summer. His development in Ligue 1 has been steady, and last season marked his breakout year, prompting interest from clubs across Europe.

Villa’s attacking depth suffered after Marcus Rashford’s loan spell ended. Rashford spent the second half of the season at Villa Park but has since moved to Barcelona. Guessand’s arrival will ease the pressure on Watkins, who carried the bulk of Villa’s goal-scoring responsibility last season.

Head coach Unai Emery is expected to integrate Guessand quickly into the squad as pre-season preparations continue. With European football on the horizon and a demanding league schedule ahead. The signing is a timely boost for Villa’s ambitions.

This transfer marks a statement of intent from the club, aiming to build on their recent progress and challenge for a top-four finish. Guessand’s arrival not only addresses a key tactical need but also reflects Villa’s continued focus on signing young, high-potential players ready to perform at the top level.
