Sutton Complete Loan Deals for Amartey and Brookes

theglobalsun – Sutton United have signed defender Bobby Amartey and wing-back Ben Brookes on short-term loan deals.

Amartey joins from Leicester City and will remain with Sutton until the end of November. The 20-year-old defender came through Leicester’s academy after joining the club at under-13 level.

He made his debuts for both the under-18 and under-21 teams when he was just 16. Amartey has since continued his development within Leicester’s youth setup.

The Ghana youth international made three appearances for Leicester’s under-21 side during the 2023-24 Football League Trophy campaign. Those appearances helped him secure his first professional contract with the Foxes.

He will now gain further senior experience with Sutton during his temporary spell. Brookes has joined Sutton from York City on a loan deal running until mid-December.

The 25-year-old wing-back was left unregistered from Scott Lindsey’s York squad for the current League Two campaign. That situation allowed him to pursue regular playing opportunities elsewhere during the season.

Brookes joined York from Maidstone in 2025 and made 35 league appearances last season. His experience should give Sutton another established option in the wide areas of their defense.

The two signings provide Sutton with additional depth as they continue their National League campaign. They also strengthen a squad that has already made an encouraging start to the season.

Sutton United Continue Strong Start to National League Campaign

Sutton United have won four of their opening six matches in their latest National League campaign. The strong run has left them fifth in the table with 12 points.

Their early form has given the club a positive platform as they look to compete near the top of the standings. The arrival of Amartey gives manager Steve Morrison another young defensive option.

His experience within Leicester’s academy and at under-21 level should support his transition into senior football. Brookes, meanwhile, brings greater experience after playing regularly for York last season.

His 35 league appearances during the previous campaign provide valuable experience at this level. Sutton have also strengthened their midfield with another loan signing this week.

The club added 20-year-old Joe Knight on a three-month loan from League One side Stevenage. Knight previously developed within the Brighton & Hove Albion academy.

His arrival provides another young option for Sutton’s midfield during the busy opening months. The three additions demonstrate Sutton’s efforts to build squad depth while maintaining their strong early form.

Amartey and Knight offer youth and development potential, while Brookes brings experience from regular league football. Sutton will now hope the new arrivals can help maintain their momentum throughout the National League season.

Amartey’s loan runs until the end of November, while Brookes will remain until mid-December. Knight will spend three months with the club as Sutton continue their promotion push.

The club’s current position provides an encouraging foundation after six league matches. Four wins have already given Sutton significant momentum at the start of the campaign.

Their latest recruitment could provide additional depth as the season becomes more demanding. With three temporary additions now in place, Sutton will aim to remain among the National League’s leading sides.
