Inter Sign Liverpool Midfielder Jones for £30m

theglobalsun – Inter Milan have completed the signing of Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones in a deal worth €35m (£30m). The 25-year-old midfielder has signed a contract with the Serie A club until 2031.

Liverpool accepted an initial €30m (£25.7m) transfer fee for their academy graduate. The agreement includes a further €5m (£4.3m) in potential add-ons.

Liverpool have also secured a 10% sell-on clause as part of the transfer agreement. The clause could provide the Premier League club with additional financial benefit from a future qualifying transfer.

Jones said he was excited to join Inter after wanting the move for some time. He believes the Italian club provides the right environment for the next stage of his career.

“It’s a club that I’ve wanted to join for a while now so I’m excited,” Jones said. The midfielder also reflected on his long association with Liverpool.

“I’m a Scouse kid who came all the way through at Liverpool,” Jones said. He explained that he had reached a point where he wanted to take the next step.

“I think this is the perfect club,” he added. Jones will now begin his first experience of senior football outside England.

The transfer ends a 16-year association between Jones and Liverpool. He joined the club’s academy when he was nine years old and progressed through the youth system.

Jurgen Klopp handed Jones his senior debut in 2019. The midfielder subsequently made 228 appearances for Liverpool across all competitions.

Jones became an established member of Liverpool’s first-team squad during his time at Anfield. However, his opportunities became more limited during the previous campaign.

He made 49 appearances across all competitions last season. Despite that total, Jones started only 18 Premier League matches.

The midfielder struggled to establish himself as a regular starter under Arne Slot. Competition for midfield positions contributed to his reduced number of league starts.

Curtis Jones Leaves Liverpool After 16 Years for Inter Milan

Liverpool rejected a verbal offer worth €25m (£21.7m) from Inter in June. The Premier League club valued Jones at approximately £35m at that stage.

The midfielder had only one year remaining on his Liverpool contract. Liverpool later indicated that a package similar to the £30m deal Inter paid Tottenham for Djed Spence could lead to an agreement.

Inter eventually reached a deal matching that level. The final package is worth €35m, including the potential add-ons agreed between the clubs.

Jones now becomes the third English player to join Inter during the summer. John Stones and Djed Spence have also moved to the Serie A champions.

His arrival adds another English player to Inter’s squad. Jones also brings extensive Premier League experience despite being only 25 years old.

The midfielder’s departure marks the end of a long journey at Liverpool. He spent his entire youth development period at the club before establishing himself in the senior team.

Jones reflected on that journey in an emotional Instagram message. He described Liverpool as the only club environment he had known throughout his career.

“After 16 years, it’s time to say goodbye,” Jones wrote. He explained that he joined Liverpool as a child and would leave as an adult.

The midfielder also noted how much his personal life had changed during his time at the club. He now leaves Liverpool with a family of his own.

“Liverpool will always be a massive part of me,” Jones wrote. He also reflected on fulfilling the dream he had when joining the academy.

“I came here as a kid with a dream, and I’m leaving having lived it,” he added. His message marked the end of his long association with the club.

Jones will now begin a new chapter in Italy after completing his move to Inter. The six-year contract keeps him at the club until 2031.

His experience with Liverpool gives Inter a midfielder who has played extensively at the highest level in England. He will now face the challenge of adapting to Serie A football and Inter’s tactical system.
