Manchester United finalized the transfer after meeting the £35 million release clause in Tielemans’ contract with Aston Villa. The Belgian international has signed a long-term deal that will keep him at Old Trafford for the next five years.
Tielemans will wear the number 18 shirt, which became available following Casemiro’s departure at the end of last season when the Brazilian’s contract expired.
The midfielder joined Aston Villa after establishing himself in the Premier League with Leicester City, where he moved in 2019. During his time in England, he earned a reputation as one of the league’s most reliable and technically gifted midfielders.
Before moving to England, Tielemans began his professional career with Anderlecht. He made his senior debut at just 16 years and 82 days old before securing a transfer to Monaco shortly after turning 20.
Despite still being in his twenties, Tielemans has accumulated remarkable experience throughout his career. He has played 668 matches for club and country while scoring 79 goals, including 578 appearances in club competitions.
Among his career highlights are the winning goal for Leicester City in the 2021 FA Cup final against Chelsea and Aston Villa’s victory over Freiburg in the Europa League final earlier this year.
