theglobalsun – Manchester City have reached an agreement with Nottingham Forest to sign England midfielder Elliot Anderson in a deal worth a club-record £116 million.
The 23-year-old is expected to undergo a medical before completing his move to the Etihad Stadium. With personal terms not anticipated to be an obstacle.
If finalized, the transfer will become the most expensive signing in Manchester City’s history and could potentially rank among the biggest deals ever completed in British football.
Transfer Fee Could Set New British Record
According to Manchester City sources, the agreed transfer fee is a fixed £116 million, with no performance-related bonuses included.
However, other reports claim the overall package could rise to £130 million. Which would surpass the £125 million Liverpool reportedly paid Newcastle United for striker Alexander Isak last summer. Making Anderson the most expensive player ever transferred between British clubs.
Nottingham Forest had previously rejected two bids from City while holding out for a higher valuation of the midfielder.
City remained confident that an agreement would eventually be reached. And their third offer successfully convinced Forest to sanction the sale.
Anderson Set for Etihad After Impressive Forest Spell
Anderson joined Nottingham Forest from Newcastle United in 2024 for £35 million. Since arriving at the City Ground, he has made 88 appearances in all competitions. Scoring four goals while establishing himself as one of Forest’s key midfielders.
He played an important role in helping Forest secure a seventh-place Premier League finish during the 2024-25 campaign.
Last season, the club finished 16th in the league but enjoyed an impressive run to the UEFA Europa League semi-finals. With Anderson continuing to play a significant role throughout the campaign.
Despite growing speculation surrounding his future, the midfielder insisted his focus remains on representing England.
“It’s pretty easy really, I’m just focusing on the present, I’m blocking it all out,” Anderson said.
“I’ve got a plan and it’s to perform for England. I’m putting myself in the best position to cross the line and do that.”
Forest Prepare Midfield Reinforcements
The club is reportedly interested in signing Lucas Bergvall from Tottenham Hotspur as well as Davide Frattesi from Inter Milan.
For Manchester City, Anderson’s signing represents another major investment as Pep Guardiola looks to refresh his midfield options and maintain the club’s challenge for Premier League and European honors.
Should the reported £116 million transfer be completed, Elliot Anderson will officially become Manchester City’s most expensive signing and one of the costliest transfers in English football history.
