Experienced Defender Seeking Fresh Start

Sessegnon made 49 appearances in all competitions during his time at Wigan Athletic. However, opportunities became limited in the 2025-26 campaign, when he featured just 15 times.

The move to AFC Wimbledon offers the defender the chance to revive his career and establish himself as a regular starter once again.

Speaking after completing the transfer, Sessegnon said he immediately felt the move was the right opportunity.

“I thought it was the perfect opportunity to get myself going again and show what I’m about,” he told the club’s official website.

The defender also expressed his excitement about playing in front of the Wimbledon supporters. “It’s a lovely stadium to come and play at. I can’t wait to be out there with it full and the fans cheering.”

Johnnie Jackson Delighted with Versatile Addition

Sessegnon arrives with experience gained at several clubs throughout his career. After progressing through Fulham’s academy, he has also represented Bristol City, Plymouth Argyle, Charlton Athletic and Wigan Athletic.

He is also the twin brother of Fulham and England international Ryan Sessegnon. AFC Wimbledon manager Johnnie Jackson believes the defender’s experience and versatility will make him an important addition to the squad.

“Steven’s a really experienced signing that’s played for some big clubs at this level and above,” Jackson said.

“He comes to us with a point to prove – he wants to get back to playing regularly. He brings good versatility; he can play either side as a wing-back or as a full-back.”

Jackson added that Sessegnon’s desire to earn regular playing time was another key factor behind the signing.

With his ability to operate in multiple defensive roles and experience across the Football League, Steven Sessegnon gives AFC Wimbledon another reliable option as the club looks to strengthen its squad for the upcoming campaign. The move also provides the defender with an ideal platform to rebuild his momentum after a challenging final season at Wigan Athletic.
