The midfielder arrives at Priestfield Stadium after spending five years in Brighton’s academy system. Having joined the Seagulls from MK Dons in 2021.

Although he did not make a senior appearance for Brighton. Albarus gained valuable experience with the club’s Under-21 side and featured four times in the EFL Trophy across the past two seasons.

The move represents the first senior challenge of his career and offers him an opportunity to establish himself in the English Football League.

Speaking after the transfer was confirmed, Albarus expressed his excitement about taking the next step in his development.

“I am so excited to join and be on board for next season,” he said. “This will be my first opportunity in a senior team and playing EFL football. I can’t wait.”

The young midfielder also emphasized his determination to make an impact. “I put 110% into everything I do. I am raring to go,” he added.

Gillingham manager Gareth Ainsworth will hope that enthusiasm translates into performances as he continues to reshape his squad ahead of the new campaign.

Albarus becomes the club’s second signing of the summer transfer window after the arrival of midfielder James Brophy from Cambridge United FC.

The additions form part of Ainsworth’s efforts to improve a team that finished 17th in League Two last season.

Analytics-Based Recruitment Shapes Gillingham’s Future

Albarus’ arrival also highlights a broader shift in Gillingham’s recruitment strategy under owner Brad Galinson.

Galinson has previously spoken about moving away from what he described as an “old-school” approach to transfers and instead adopting a more analytics-driven model.

The club hopes that combining data analysis with traditional scouting will help identify undervalued talent and improve long-term squad building. Albarus appears to fit that profile perfectly.

Despite lacking senior experience, he arrives from one of England’s most respected academy systems and has spent several years developing at a club renowned for producing young talent.

Brighton have earned a reputation for nurturing players capable of succeeding at the highest level. And Gillingham will hope Albarus can continue that trajectory in League Two. The midfielder is expected to compete for regular minutes as he adapts to senior football.

For Gareth Ainsworth, the signing represents an investment in potential rather than proven experience. The manager has already shown a willingness to give opportunities to young players and may view Albarus as someone capable of growing into an important member of the squad.

Meanwhile, Gillingham supporters will be eager to see how the club’s evolving recruitment strategy translates onto the pitch.
