West arrives with significant Gallagher Premiership experience and is expected to strengthen Newcastle’s pack as the club continues rebuilding for the upcoming campaign.

Standing at 6ft 1in, West developed through the academy system at Wasps RFC before becoming a regular first-team player.

During his time with Wasps, he made 78 appearances and established himself as a dependable loose-head prop capable of competing consistently at Premiership level.

Following his departure from Wasps. West also had spells with Leicester Tigers and Saracens. Adding further experience at some of England’s biggest rugby clubs.

Newcastle Add Premiership Experience to Forward Pack

Newcastle sporting general manager Neil McIlroy praised West’s experience and physical presence. Describing him as a proven performer in the Gallagher Premiership.

Front-row depth is often one of the most important elements of a successful rugby squad. Particularly across a physically demanding domestic season.

West’s arrival should provide additional stability in scrums, greater competition for places, and leadership within the forward unit.

The signing also comes ahead of the arrival of incoming head coach Dan McFarland. Who is expected to play a major role in shaping Newcastle’s future direction.

West revealed that discussions with McFarland helped influence his decision to join the club.

He also spoke positively about Newcastle’s history and atmosphere. Describing it as a venue he has always enjoyed visiting during his career.

Experienced Addition Ahead of New Season

Throughout his professional career, West has built a reputation as a hardworking and reliable prop with strong Premiership-level experience.

Earlier in his development, he also represented the England Under-20 rugby union team. Highlighting the promise he showed at youth level.

Experienced forwards are often especially valuable in rugby because of the physical and technical demands placed on front-row players.

Beyond his on-field contribution, West is also expected to add professionalism and experience within the squad environment.

For Newcastle, the signing reflects a focus on adding proven domestic talent capable of contributing immediately rather than relying entirely on long-term development prospects.

Overall, the move appears beneficial for both sides. Newcastle gain an experienced Premiership prop to strengthen their forward pack. While West receives a fresh opportunity under a new coaching setup ahead of the upcoming season.
