theglobalsun – Fenerbahce have completed the signing of English forward Mason Greenwood from Marseille on a four-year contract. The Turkish club confirmed the transfer after reaching an agreement with the Ligue 1 side for a deal valued at €39 million. Although earlier announcements suggested the total package could reach €45 million.
The move follows an outstanding spell in France, where Greenwood established himself as one of Ligue 1’s most dangerous attackers. Fenerbahce will now look to the 24-year-old to strengthen their squad as they pursue the Turkish Super Lig title and UEFA Champions League qualification.
Fenerbahce Complete Mason Greenwood Transfer From Marseille
Greenwood arrives in Istanbul after scoring 48 goals in 81 appearances across all competitions for Marseille. His impressive performances helped him become one of the club’s standout players during his time in Ligue 1.
The English forward also enjoyed an excellent 2025-26 league campaign. Finishing joint-second in the Ligue 1 Golden Boot standings with 16 goals. Only Rennes striker Esteban Lepaul finished above him in the scoring charts.
Fenerbahce officially announced Greenwood’s signing on a four-year contract after completing negotiations with Marseille. While the club confirmed a transfer fee of €39 million. It had previously indicated the overall agreement could total €45 million through additional payments.
Speaking after the transfer was finalized, Greenwood expressed his excitement about joining the Turkish giants.
“Hello Fenerbahce family, thank you so much for the support you have shown me. I am very happy to be here,” Greenwood said.
Interest in Greenwood had emerged even before Fenerbahce’s presidential election in early June. Both presidential candidates, Aziz Yildirim and Hakan Safi, publicly identified the forward as a priority transfer target during their campaigns.
Forward Begins New Challenge After Successful Spell in France
Greenwood joined Marseille from Manchester United in July 2024 in a deal worth £26.6 million after spending the previous season on loan at Spanish club Getafe.
At the time of the transfer, Manchester United confirmed they had negotiated a sizeable sell-on clause for the academy graduate.
Greenwood’s departure from Old Trafford followed an internal review conducted by Manchester United after criminal charges of attempted rape and assault against him were dropped in February 2023. The club decided he would not return to its first-team squad.
A productive loan spell at Getafe helped revive Greenwood’s career before Marseille secured his permanent signing. His move to France proved highly successful as he developed into one of Ligue 1’s most consistent goalscorers.
Now, Greenwood faces a fresh challenge with Fenerbahce, who finished second in the Turkish Super Lig for the fifth consecutive season.
Fenerbahce will also compete in the UEFA Champions League second qualifying round later this month, where they are scheduled to face Polish side Gornik Zabrze. Greenwood is expected to play a central role as the club aims to secure a place in Europe’s premier club competition and end its long wait for another domestic league championship.
